    • Total - completely covers the cervical os
    • Partial - partially covers the cervical os/ occludes a portion
    • Marginal - placental border reaches the border of the cervical os
    • Low-lying - implantation in the lower rather than in the upper portion; most common

    Management:
    • Bed rest, left lateral position - to prevent further bleeding; relieves compression of the inferior vena cava.
    • No IE and internal FHR monitoring - to prevent trauma to the placenta
    • FHT monitoring - to look for fetal distress
