3.3 work, energy and power

• work done is the product of the force and the distance moved in the direction of the force
• 1J is the work done when a race of 1N moves an object by 1m
• kinetic energy is the energy associated with the motion of an object with a mass
• gravitational potential is the energy associated with an object being in a gravitational feild
• chemical energy is the energy stored in the chemical bonds between atoms. The energy can be released when the atoms rearrange
• elastic potential energy is the energy stored in an object as a reasult of a reversible change in its shape
• internal energy is the sum of random potential and kinetic energies of atoms in a system
• electromagnetic energy is the erngys assoidated with EM waves and stores within oscilating feilds
• sound of the energy of mechanical waves due to movement in atoms
• electric potential is the energy of electrical changes due to its position in a electric field
• principle of conservation of energy is when energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be transferred to other forms
• energy is the capacity to do work
• power is rate of work done
• efficiency is the useful energy output / total input energy x100
• within a closed system and assuming no energy lost to surroundings, when an object s falling towards the ground, all energy will be transferred from gravitational potential to kinetic energy
