  • OFC sends worry signals and these signals are normally supressed by the caudate nucleus
  • in OCD the caudate nuclues is thought to be damaged so it cannot supress the signals which become extremely exited
  • serotonin is believed to regulate mood
  • if someone has low serotonin then normal transmission of mood relevant information doesn't take place, this means that a person may experience a low mood
  • in some cases OCD can be explained by the reduction in the functioning of serotonin system in the brain
