Random sampling

    Cards (3)

    • Random sampling

Every member of the target population has an equal chance of being selected.
Every member of the target population is identified and a random sampling technique is used to select the sample.
e.g. names are drawn from a hat or names given a number and a random number generator on the computer is used.
    • Random sampling - advantages

      • least biased - all members of the target population have an equal chance of being selected so more likely to be representative
    • random sampling - disadvantages
      • no guarantee that the sample will be representative.
      • having large numbers if participants can help to ensure the sample is representative (but time taking)
