The Nervous system

    Cards (6)

    • 2 main functions of the nervous system
To collect, process, and respond to information in the environment. To co-ordinate the working of different organs and cells in the body
    • What is the CNS made up of + main functions
the brain is = center of all conscious awareness the spinal cord = the extension of the brain (connects body to brain) and the transmission of messages to the brain
    • The peripheral nervous system
transmits messages via millions of neurons - divided into ANS & SNS
    • Autonomic nervous system
governs vital involuntary functions in the body. controls smooth muscles and glands. Functions are MOTOR
    • Somatic nervous system
transmits information between CNS and senses. Controls all voluntary muscle movements. It is made up of nerves that connect to the skin, sensory organs, and skeletal muscles. SENSORY and MOTOR pathways
    • ANS functions
breathing, heart rate, digestion, and stress responses
