  works along NS to control vital functions in body. Acts much more slowly than NS.
• ES functions

  instructs glands in the body to produce hormones, which are secreted into bloodstream
• Thyroid gland

  produces thyroxine which affects heart rate
• Pituitary gland


  (in brain) called 'master gland', controls the release of all hormones in the body and produces ACTH in a fight/flight response.
• adrenal gland

  releases adrenaline and noradrenaline, causing psychological changes in a fight/flight response
