Cards (8)

  • validity is a measure of?
    Truth.
  • internal validity
How truthful the research itself is. Have the results been caused by the IV or something else? If it has been caused by the IV there is high internal validity. This can be tested through face validity - a research will look at the study and see if it measures what it says it does. Can also be measured through concurrent validity - new procedures are compared with old ones, correlation of +0.80 = valid.
  • external validity
If the findings can be applied to real life situations there is high external validity. Are the findings a true representation? There are four things that count as external validity.
  • four types of external validity
    -population validity
    -ecological validity
    -mundane realism
    -temporal validity
  • population validity
If results can be applied to the target population.
  • ecological validity
    If the setting is realistic.
  • mundane realism
    If the task is realistic.
  • temporal validity
If the results can still be applied after time passes.
