types of distribution

Cards (4)

  • A normal distribution is a symmetrical bell shaped curve. In the central point of the bell curve there is the mean, median and mode (MOCD). The bell shaped curve shows where most of data falls. (Things such as IQ, height and weight can be used in a normal distribution.)
  • A skewed distribution is when the MOCD do not all fall in the middle. Can be a positive or negative skew.
  • In a positive skew most data scores lower. The mean is higher than the mode.(Remember as: being right handed has connotations of being a positive thing - the skew goes to the right hand side.)
  • In a negative skew most data scores higher. The mode is higher than the mean.(Remember as: being left handed has connotations of being a negative thing - the skew goes to the left hand side.)
