  • One high court
• Principles of judicial reform:

  • Fair free justice
  • Removal of lettres de cachet
• Judges paid salaries as opposed to client fees.
• Legal rights:

  • Brought to a judge within 24 hours of arrest.
  • All proceedings were open to public
  • No seizing of accused's property.
• September 1791 = fewer crimes punishable by death, ENLIGHTENED SYSTEM!
• 1792 = only form of capital punishment is Guillotine - EQUALITY IN DEATH.
