Economic Reform

• Assignats = person paid money to the government, would receive church land when available. Started in 1789
• All taxes replaced with 3, land tax, property tax and commercial tax.
• For many, taxes were no lighter just differently assessed but was fairer.
• August 1789 = reregulation of the grain trade, no control and no prevention of high prices!
• Guilds and corporate bodies abolished in 1791.
• June 1791 = trade unions became illegal.
• Consistent system of weights and measures introduced.
