The little hans experiment was published in 1909
Hans parents was concerned because he was fascinated by ‘ widdlers ‘ both his own penis and those of other male animals
his mother threatened to chop it off
Hans then developed castration anxiety
freud argued that hans fears his dad will castrate him - Hans could be worried his dad would find out he is sexually attracted to his mother
Hans was a five year old boy who had a fear of horses - like all clinical studies the aim was to treat the phobia
Freuds interpretation linked Hans fear to the Oedipus complex the horses unconsciously representing the fear of his father
