MUSIC 10: ELEMENTS

• PITCH - refers to the perceived frequency of soundwaves determining whether the sound is high or low
• MELODY - refers to the succession of pitches that creates a recognizable tone
• HARMONY - refers to the combination of different musical notes played or sung together to create a pleasing sound
• TEXTURE - refers to how the layers of sound, lines, voices interact in relate to each other within a piece of music
• TIMBRE - refers to the unique quality or tone color of a sound
• STRUCTURE - or form refers to the organization of a piece
• RHYTHM - refers to an organized arrangement of sound and periods of silences represented by musical notes and rests
• METER - refers to the organization of beats into regular groupings
