experiments look for a difference in participant performance
correlationalresearch looks for a relationship between two co-variables
null hypothesis
predicts no difference or relationship
directional hypothesis
states which specific direction the results will go in and contains words "there will be an increase/decrease/faster/slower"
a non-directional hypothesis
less clear of the direction the results will go in and tends to use the worlds "there will be a difference"
if there is previous research, the hypothesis would be directional. if there is no previous research, the hypothesis would be non-directional OR there is conflicting evidence OR the study is very old
