feminism

Cards (5)

  • what do feminists think about education?
Education reinforces and teaches the patriarchy to the pupils, more so the girls. Education also teaches the girls to accept the patriarchy, they then will not challenge it when they leave school.
  • examples of the patriarchy in education
-men having more powerful, authoritative jobs.
-women teaching social sciences, men teaching stem.
  • liberal feminists
Still issues with the patriarchy in education but there has been progress towards equality. An example of there still being the patriarchy in education is more men going on to further education and 'gendered' subjects.
  • radical feminists
Education is patriarchal, girls are oppressed in schools. Schools reinforce patriarchal ideologies through the formal and hidden curriculums. Patriarchy is normalised so the girls go on to think it is normal in society. In schools, sexual harassment against girls is not treated as seriously as other forms of bullying.
  • difference feminists
Not all girls have the same experiences in education. Ethnic minorities are more likely to be stereotyped than others are. There have been improvements for girls in education but there is still not equality.
