  • New audiences - he makes the classics accessible
  • Accessibility - he intends on easing the audience into dance in order to cater for those who maybe don't have an interest in dance but are brought along anyway. By picking stories that the audience knows e.g. cinderella, sleeping beauty, edward scissorhands etc the audience can feel relaxed and follow the story and feel able to identify Bourne's 'spin' on things (audience confidence)
  • Outreach - Re:Bourne, professional CPD (overture), curtain raisers, mass-movement projects like Lord of The Flies and hard-to reach groups i.e. Dance on Water. His works are studied by most students at secondary school age in some capacity.
  • Reputation- Bourne has been the UK’s biggest dance export for the last 10 years and one reason is that he reaches / appeals to a wide audience. Despite their being adult themes readings there is still the ‘fairy tale’ element that appeals to a younger audience and families.
  • Success’ -Makes contemporary dance 'commercially successful‘
  • Eclectic genre’- fuses music, dance and theatre into one experience
  • 'Morality’- Bourne intended to teach (Didactic) particularly in having moral instruction as an ulterior motive, elements of children’s stories.
  • Gobstoppersstereotypical men
By over-exaggerating the costumes- Bourne is using parody to expose the audience to the fact that gender-stereotypes are outdated.
