    • what is a repeated measure design?
Th same participants complete two or more levels of the independent variable.
    • what is a benefit of Repeated measure design?
Because each participant has to repeat the experiment under each condition , the researchers can compare the participant results from condition A to condition B.
    • what data is produced form a repeated measure experiment?

the data produces is called Repeated data- each participants data can be compared with their own scores in the other condition.
    • What is a disadvantage of Repeated measure design?
Order effects- participants my get a worse score on the second condition due to boredom to they might improve due to practice and are more likely to figure out the aim of the study so they might change their behaviour.
    • How do you solve the order effects in a Repeated measure design?
Researchers do something called counter balancing- it is an attempt to control the order effects ( does not eliminate them). this uses the ABBA format half of the participants will do cognition A then B and the other half will do B then A.
    • what is an Independent group design?
Different participant complete in each of the two or more conditions of the experiment. Participants are randomly allocated to each condition do that there is no researcher bias.
    • What kind of data is collected from a Independent group design?
The data collected is called Unrelated data- the problem with this is that you can't compare the data from one group with another because of participant variables.
    • what are the advantages of an independent group design?

Participants are less likely to figure out the aim of the study, and there are no order effects as they are only taking part in one of the condition sod the experiment.
    • What are the disadvantages of an independent group design?
Needs more participants and the participant variables.
    • What is a Matched pair design?
Different participants complete each of the two conditions of the experiment. they are first assessed and ranked on characteristics (eg aggression levels) then the 2 participants (then the following 2) are matched and randomly assigned to separate conditions.
    • What data is produces from Matched pair design?
The data produces is called related data, each participants score can be compared with the the other participants scorer (the person that they matched with).
    • What is an advantage of Matched pair design?
Reduces participant variables and there are no order effects as they only take part in one condition.
    • What are the disadvantaged of Matched pair design?
Takes longer that other experimental designs , needs twice as many participants, participant care similar but not identical so there are may still be so participant variables.
