    Rights: The constitution in Singapore states that no citizens will be discriminated against on the ground of religion, race descent or place of birth.
    Obligations: Male citizens in Singapore are obligated to serve National Service (NS)
  • Definition of Sense of identity
    Refers to how a person perceives himself or herself. May be through sharing of common spaces, experiences and practices.

    Hawker centres are important common spaces that represent Singapore's multicultural heritage and many citizens gather at hawker centre's to bond over a diverse variety of local dishes

  • Definition of shared values 

    Values are principles and beliefs tat influence a person's attitudes, thinking and behaviour.
    Shared values refers to values that are embraced and seen as important by a group of people (history, heritage and experiences)
  • Example of shared values
    A shared value Singaporeans have is the belief in a multiracial and multireligious Singapore
  • Definition of civic participation
    citizens actively taking part in public affairs or matters of general interest or concern to most people in society. Citizens may be motivated by the desire to address societal issues or help certain groups in society.
  • Example of Civic participation
    informal community groups organised by citizens to address specific area of needs. Generally last for a shorter period and may not be registered with government.
