• Davis and Moore focus on the relationship between education and social inequality arguing that inequality is neccessary in school to ensure that the most important roles are filled by the most talented students
• positions are based on achieved status. educations sorts people into appropriate jobs (role allocation) as some jobs are more important than others and should be sorted accordingly. however some aspects of achievement may be ascribed due to natural ability.
