• What were some of the physical and emotional signs of tension exhibited by participants during Milgram’s study?

  Many participants showed nervousness, extreme tension, sweating, trembling, stuttering, lip-biting, groaning and digging fingernails into their flesh.

  Fourteen participants showed nervous laughter or smiling, indicating they were acting against their own values in punishing the learner.
