Normal and Skewed distributions

• What is a normal distribution?

  Most people fall in the middle of the scale, with very few people at the extreme ends on each side.

  In a normal distribution, the mean, median and mode are all the same.
• What is negatively skewed data?

  • When most people fall on the right of a scale
  • The mean has been pulled down by some low scores
  • Mean is lower than the mode
• What is positively skewed data?

  • When most people fall on the left of a scale
  • Mean has been pulled up by some high scores
  • Mean is higher than the mode
