  • Pigmentation:
    • Linea nigra: darkening of pigmented areas, first trimester of pregnancy
    • Melasma: irregular, sharply marginated areas of pigmentation in a symmetrical pattern, either on the forehead and temples, or central face. Develops in the second half of pregnancy
    • Melanocytic naevi - may show transient changes in clinical and dermoscopic appearance, but any signs suggestive of melanoma should be investigated
  • Common vascular changes:
    • Non-pitting oedema of the legs due to increased hydrostatic pressure
    • Varicose veins of the legs, haemorrhoids, and vulvar varicosities are common
    • Spider telangiectasias: disappear post-partum
    • Palmar erythema
    • Pyogenic granuloma
  • Skin conditions that occur specifically during pregnancy (pregnancy specific dermatoses):
    • Pemphigoid gestationis
    • Polymorphic eruption of pregnancy
    • Prurigo of pregnancy (atopic eruption of pregnancy)
