  • SCANNING
    A technique that enables you to search for a specific information. You move your eyes quickly over the page to find key words that will lead you to a particular answer. You must know what you are looking for. Also used when looking for research materials.
  • TIPS (RLS)
    READ the questions first to know the information you needed.
    LOOK for words that are boldfaced, italicized, or underlined.
    SEARCH for nouns and verbs.
  • SKIMMING
    Similar to scanning, but you note important titles, subtitles, subheadings and illustrations, which will give you an overview of the article's content.
  • CLOSE READING
    Enables you to extract detailed information, to note the sequence of events, and to be aware of patterns, similarities, comparisons and contrasts.
