• Passed many reform measures to create a ‘ Great Society ‘ as president
• He got together a pro civil rights coalition of Republicans and Democrats
• Civil Rights Act 1964 = prevented local juries deciding on cases of discrimination
• Voting Rights Act 1965 = the decision was backed by Johnson and this was his federal action to United States v Mississippi
