Executive Order 11578 =required all employers with federal contracts to draft affirmative action policies to actively promote African Americans
Act of 1972 = extended equal employment legislation to all federal , state and local governments
Civil Rights Act 1991 = put burden on businesses to show that any discrimination in employment didn’t spring from racial discrimination - based on genuine requirements of the company
It was controversial and was reduced under the Republican administration of Ronald Reagan in the 1980s
