• Neo-orthodox approaches are based on the arguments of philosophers like Karl Barth
• Karl Barth was a swiss protestant theologian who believed that the bible is not the word of god but it contains the word of god
• Barth also believed that the bible is the way through which humans may experience god, realising their need for forgiveness and divine mercy shown through Jesus
• Barth believed that the bible is not inerrant with respect to science, history and religion, as its writers were products of their time and subject to limitations of intellect
