• King relied on traditional methods – never changed this
• Should have enjoyed the advantage of clear command

  structure – As King he clearly had the authority to

  give orders. However he had no military experience or skill.
• But riddled with rivalries and confusion – at one stage

  3 different armies with different commands and

  orders
• Prince Rupert was brilliant but divisive and unreliable
• The King’s military organisation was restricted by tradition

  and confused command
