Royalist Funding

• Relied on traditional methods with supporters giving loans and plate
• 1642 -Commissions of Array ordered wealthy

  gentlemen to raise county forces for King
• 1643 – counties grouped into military districts & more orderly taxation organised – this was abused
• 1644 – Oxford Parliament agreed to introduce

  conscription and exercise tax
• Tried to raise funding from abroad
• The King was slow to adapt his funding habits to suit meet his increased demands
