    • Bandura argues that observational learning is important. Imitate the behaviour of 'models', called modelling. Models - parents, peers or media characters. Behaviour is learnt faster through imitation than conditioning.
    • Behaviour is more likely to be imitated if...
      • Identify with the model (same sex, age or higher status)
      • Self-efficiency - believe the have the ability to reproduce the behaviour
      • There are positive consequences for the behaviour. Vicarious Reinforcement - we see model rewarded for certain actions, we believe if we do the same actions we'll be rewarded.
    • Mediational Processes
      1. Attention - individuals need to perceive and attend to significant features of models behaviour
      2. Retention - in order to reproduce behaviour - have to code info to LTM
      3. Motor Reproduction - Observer must be able to reproduce models behaviour
      4. Motivation - Observer expects to receive positive reinforcement for modelled behaviour.
    • KEY STUDY: BANDURA BOBO DOLL STUDY
PROCEDURE: 72 children 1/2 boys, 1/2 girls (4 years). 3 conditions and all children matches on initial aggression. One group - watched aggressive model his bobo doll with a hammer + punch saying boom, pow. Second group - watched non-aggressive model that played quietly in corner of the room. 3rd group had no model (control group) left in the playroom with bobo doll and observed through 1 way mirror for 20 min.
    • KEY STUDY: BANDURA BOBO DOLL STUDY
FINDINGS: Group one frequently imitated the same acts of aggression even repeating the phrases, whereas the other groups showed very little aggression.
