  • Kawasaki Disease
    An acute, systemic vasculitis primarily affecting children under 5 years old, particularly of Asian descent.
  • Kawasaki Disease Pathognomonic Sign: Strawberry red tongue
  • Kawasaki Disease S/Sx:
    • High-spiking fever 
    • Strawberry red tongue (hallmark)
    • Polymorphous rash (rash in different shapes)
    • Palmar desquamation
    • Photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light; hyperemia of conjunctiva) 
  • Diagnostics for Kawasaki Disease: Elevated ESR 
  • Management of Kawasaki Disease:
    • Aspirin as ordered (withold with bleeding)
    • Immunoglobulins – enhance immune response
    • Clear liquid diet 
    • CPR (Pt is at risk for coronary artery disease)
