    Cards (6)

    • Behaviourist
External factors in the environment influence our behaviour. All behaviour is learnt through classical and operant conditioning.
    • Social Learning
Behaviour is learnt as a result of observation of models. A bridge between the behaviourist and cognitive theory by recognising how important mental factors are involved in learning.
    • Cognitive
Thought processes determine behaviour. It is necessary to look at internal mental processes in order to understand behaviour.
    • Biological
Physiological and/or inherited factors determine behaviour. Characteristics can be passed on from one generation to the next through genes. Chemical changes in the nervous system and hormonal changes are also though to influence behaviour.
    • Psychodynamic
Unconscious factors beyond our concious control determine our behaviour. Emphasis on the importance of early childhood experiences in shaping personality.
    • Humanistic
Behaviour is under conscious control. Emphasis on the importance of the individual striving towards personal growth and fulfilment.
