  • Test for lipids
    Shake with ethanol ( solvent for lipids as lipids are insoluble) THEN add water
    From clear to a white milky emulsion
  • Test for Starch
    Add iodine
    From yellow to black / blue
  • Non-reducing sugar test
    Carry out benedicts test and the solution should stay blue
    In a new test tube add the non reducing sugar and acid to boil and hydrolyze
    When cooled add alkali to neutralize and then heat with benedicts at 80C
    From blue to in between green or brick red depends on how much glucose is in the solution
  • Test for proteins
    Add biuret
    From blue to lilac
  • Test for amylase
    Amylase is an enzyme
    Enzyme = protein
    Protein = biuret test
  • Test for reducing sugars
    Boil at 80C with benedicts
