• Mensheviks= minority, believed in education and gaining mass support so taking their time to go at the right time
• growing middle class resentment at lack of participation in Gov, censorship and harsh laws
• Populist e.g., the people's will and land and liberty, those who 'went to the people'. Radicalisms dominated these groups early on claiming the regime should be changed
• The populists believed in a society based on village communes, their chose method was terrorism and assasination
