The perfect

• made up of:

  • the auxiliary, or 'helping' verb (sein or haben)
  • the past participle
• when you want to say what you have done at a certain time in the past

  it's usually used in speech and informal writing
• use SEIN if:

  • there is movement from A to B
  • you're saying 'stayed' or 'remained'
  • there is a 'change of state'

  use HABEN if:

  • none of these critieria apply
