    • parent/carer: discuss how they can support/encorage child in surgery

    • tb habits - who brushes, fluoride in tp, supervised? spit not rinse
    • diet - bottle to bed (what is in it?) sugary drinks regularly, sugar added to drinks, sugar-containing medication, snacking, lunch as school, 5 a day
    • any difficulties bringing children to appointments
    • parent/carer attitude to oral health/motivation
  • clinical assessment:
    • plaque levels, toothbrushing - discuss with parent/carer
    • caries? in primary teeth assess caires, pain, infection
  • Tips for exam with young child:
    • relaxed smilling manner
    • knee to knee exam
    • holding pt hand
    • allow parent/carer to look in mouth with mirror
    • encourage pt/carer to give child a cuddle
