  Families transmit ruling class beliefs and values to children through socialisation. The family teach children to accept their position in society, making it seem natural and inevitable. Obedience 'to authority' at home mirrors obedience in the workplace, so it prevents the uprising of the working class.
• Leach

  Leach goes further and states that the family acts like an overload electrical circuit. The demands placed on it are too great and fuses blow. The parents and children huddled together in their loneliness take too much out of each other. The parents fight and the children rebel.
