    The death of Ferdinand and accession of Charles I led to a peace treaty between France and Spain which was joined by the Emperor Maximilian, leaving England diplomatically isolated

    International Peace treaty, signed in October 1518. Wolsey made Henry appear like the pivotal power, as 22 countries signed separately with England. Henry looked like an international peacemaker. Short term however.

    Following the death of Maximilian in 1519, war broke out between spain and france. Both countries were keen to secure England as an Ally. Henry meets with Francis near Calais. Lots of Jousting took place and a years income was spent. The meeting achieved nothing of diplomatic value.
