  The new right differ from functionalists as they believe the nuclear family is in decline and is threatening society's values.
• Family Diversity

  They argue there has been a growth in family diversity. Most notably single parent families. Children are being raised without a male role model, causing a rise of criminality.
• Generous benefits

  Because of generous benefits we've seen a growth in a benefit dependent underclass. Benefits provide perverse incentives - they reward people for not working.
• The New Right Approach

  • Believe men should be the main breadwinners
  • Women's role are seen as traditional e.g. carer and nurturer
  • Belief in extreme traditional 'family values'
  • Supporters of family values oppose sexual freedom, abortion and LGBTQ+ rights
