    • Government offers them to support citizens in their everyday life e.g. NHS ensures that healthcare is free to citizens

    • they allow citizens to volunteer their time and skills e.g.standing up for justice and equality with Amnesty International
    • they work to support causes or groups in society
    • they are non-profit making
    • aim to raise awareness and funds for their causes in order to improve conditions
  • Interest and Pressure groups
    Interest groups share a common interest and may be political
    Pressure groups put pressure on government to adopt policies that help their cause

    • They act on behalf of workers such as teachers,doctors,shop workers.
    • they give workers a voice and represent their interests to employers i democratic ways
    • they help protect workers rights and campaign to improve pay and conditions

    • They represent a huge number of cause that give people a voice
    • many are voluntary organizations ,but some get paid
    • they hold government to account by spreading power and influence in society
