    • how do chase studies support the WMM?

KF could transfer visual info to his LTM but not auditory info. suggests memory isn’t unitary and can be subdivided into the phonological loop and the visuo-spatial sketch pad
    • how do case studies undermine the WMM?

HM had his hippocampus removed for epileptic seizures. he lost the ability to form new LTM but could recall old memories from before the surgery and hold memories in STM. he couldn’t transfer from STM to LTM. suggests memory stores are distinct and unitary
    • explain how evidence from brain scans undermines or supports the WMM?

supports- the central executive is separate from other stores and performs high level functions. Braver et al (1997) gave participants tasks involving the central executive to suggest the pre-frontal cortex was activated and the harder the task the more it worked
    • explain how evidence from dual task experiments supports or undermines the WMM?

Baddeley et al (1975)- participants do visual tracking with either describing the letter F or performing a verbal task. WMM is supported: task 1 was more difficult (both uses visuo-spatial sketch pad) task 2 uses the phonological loop as well. shows we have multiple stores and information can be processed separately in them
    • limitations of clarity over the central executive?

Baddeley gave no detail on how the central executive works but only states it’s the most important part. validity is reduced
