    • "Discotheque" developed from Soul (Motown) and Funk in New York in the late 60s and early 70s. It grew from clubs in which the newly emerging DJ would play continuous records specifically for the purpose of freeform dancing. Soon, artists developed, writing music specifically for these new clubs.
    • Disco is characterised by:
      • '4 to the floor' bass drum
      • Off-beat open Hi-hat
      • Funk rhythm Electric Guitar
      • Bass line dominated
      • Use of Strings and sometimes Brass
    • Disco was on the decline by 1977 whilst Rock music was on the up and slogans like 'Death to Disco' became more popular. Punk-Rock in particular were very hostile to disco.
