Hobbes State

• Hobbes – ‘Government is necessary, not because man is naturally bad but because man is by nature more individualistic than social’
• Hobbes believes that the Government's role is to enforce law and order.
• Hobbes' Social Contract - People concede their individual liberty in return for protection from the state. Unlimited obedience in return for personal security
• Hobbes advocates for an autocratic and intimidating and unlimited state where dispersal of power would only replicate the 'state of nature'
