  The father of psychology, the subject moved from philosophical roots to controlled, objective and scientific research

  In 1873, Wundt published first book on psychology 'Principles of physiological Psychology' helping to establish the subject as an independent branch of science
• When did he set up the first psychology laboratory? 


  In 1879, he set up first psychology laboratory in Liepzig Germany
• Wundt promoted the use of scientific methods when investigating introspection as a way of studying mental processes. Introspection is the systematic analysis of own conscious experience of a stimulus. An experience was analysed in terms of its component parts e.g. sensations, emotional reaction etc
• His work paved the way for later controlled research and the study of mental processes e.g by cognitive psychologists
