Divisions of nervous system

• Nervous system- 


  Is a network of nerve cells that transmit messages between different parts of the body
• Central Nervous System-


  -Consists of brain and spinal cord
• The brain (CNS)

  -It is in centre of all conscious awareness

  -Divided into different lobes with different functions
• Spinal Cord (CNS)-

  -Extension of brain
• Somatic Nervous System- 


  -Carries sensory info from sensory organs to CNS and relays motor commands to muscles ; controls voluntary movements
• Autonomic nervous system-

  -Regulates involuntary bodily processes, including heart rate, respiration

  -Sympathetic nervous system > fight or flight

  -Parasympathetic nervous system > returns body to relaxed state
