• Hemispheric Lateralisation

  Refers to idea that certain mental processes and functions are more dominant in 1 hemisphere of brain than the other
• Language (Left hemisphere)

  -Brocas Area

  -Wernicks area
• Language (Left hemisphere) Brocas area

  -Located in left frontal lobe

  -Responsible for speech production

  -Damage can result in Brocas aphasia where speech is slow and laborious but comprehension remains intact
• Language (Left hemisphere) Wernicks area

  -Found in left temporal lobe

  -Involved in language comprehension

  -Damage causes Wernickes aphasia where speech is fluent but nonsensical and comprehension is impaired
• Spatial abilities (Right hemisphere)

  -Right is more involved in spatial awareness, facial recognition and processing visual imagery
