  • Nervous system is a network of nerve cells that transmit messages between different parts of the body
  • Central nervous system - 

    -Consists of brain and spinal cord
    -These transfer messages to and from the environment
  • Peripheral nervous system - 

    -Sends and receives information from and to the central nervous system
  • CNS The brain-
    -Centre of all conscious awareness
    -Divided into different lobes with different functions
  • CNS Spinal cord- 

    -Extension of the brain
    -Responsible for reflex actions such as pulling your hand away from a hot plate
  • PNS Somatic nervous system- 

    -Carries sensory info from sensory organs to the CNS and relays motor commands to muscles ; controls voluntary movement
  • PNS automatic nervous system- 

    -Regulates involuntary bodily processes, including heart rate and respiration
    -Sympathetic nervous system , fight or flight
    -Parasympathetic nervous system, returns body to relaxed state
