The Cell Cycle

Cards (8)

  • What happens in interphase?

Cell gets bigger. DNA replicates. Protein synthesis occurs. Organelles are synthesised.
  • What happens in prophase?

Chromosomes become visible. Nuclear envelope disintegrates. Nucleolus disappears.
  • What happens in metaphase?

Spindle is formed & chromatids attach to it. Sister chromatids move to equator of the cell
  • What happens in anaphase?

Sister chromatids pulled to opposite poles of the cell as the spindle fibres contract.
  • What happens in telaphase?

Nuclear envelope reforms. Spindle disintegrates. Cytoplasm splits. Two daughter cells are created.
  • What does the cell cycle produce?

    Two identical daughter cells
  • In which phase does mitosis officially start?

    Prophase
  • What does mitosis make new cells for?
    Growth
    To repair tissue
    Reproduction
    Replacement
