Independent groups

• two separate groups of participants experience two different conditions of the experiment
• if there are two levels of the IV then participants would only participate in one level
• the performance would then be compared
• evaluation:

  • no order effects
  • lowered risk of demand characteristics as participants are less likely to guess the aim of the study as they only take part in one condition
  • more participants are needed as each participant can only be used once
  • it is time consuming as more money is spent on recruiting participants
