What should you be able to describe by the end of the video on
moving coil
loudspeakers
and
headphones
?
How a moving coil loudspeaker and headphones work
View source
What is the
motor effect
?
It is the force experienced by a conductor carrying a current in a
magnetic field
View source
In which devices is the
motor effect
used as discussed in the video?
Loudspeakers
and
headphones
View source
How does a
moving coil
loudspeaker work?
A cone has a coil of wire wrapped around one end.
The coil is connected to an
alternating current
(AC) electrical supply.
A
permanent magnet
is placed inside the coil.
The current generates a
magnetic field
in the coil.
The coil's magnetic field interacts with the permanent magnet's field, causing movement.
The cone moves in and out, generating sound waves.
View source
What happens to the
cone
when the direction of the
current
changes?
The direction of the
force
on the cone reverses, causing it to move in and out
View source
How does changing the
frequency
of the
AC supply
affect the sound produced?
A higher frequency produces a higher
pitch sound
, while a lower frequency produces a lower pitch sound
View source
What effect does increasing the size of the current have on the sound produced?
It increases the
amplitude
of the vibration, which increases the
volume
of the sound
