rates of reaction

    Cards (4)

    • how do reactions take place?

reactions take place when particles collide with a certain amount of energy.
    • what is activation energy?

the minimum amount of energy needed for the particles to react
    • what does the rate of reaction depend on?

      • the frequency of collisions between particles
      • the energy with which particles collide
    • what are the 4 factors that affect the rate of reaction?

      • temperature —> higher the temp, faster the reaction
      • surface area —> if a solid is split into several pieces, the surface area increases. greater surface area = more collisions + greater chance of reaction
      • concentration —> higher concentration = more particles in same amount of space meaning particles more likely to collide and react
      • catalysts —> lower the reactants activation energy
