Field Experiment

Cards (3)

  • Field experiment
conducted in natural enviro relevant to research, IV manipulated, partic don't always know they're taking part
  • Strengths
    • good internal reliability IF consistency in procedures = replication = lower control over enviro
    • insight to everyday behaviour irl settings, enviro more realistic = higher mundane realism = higher eco validity
    • less likely affected by demand characteristics, partic not know they in research = less likely to adapt behaviour accordingly
cause & effect relationship established, IV direct effect on DV
  • Weaknesses
cause & effect relationship more difficult to establish compared to lab as less control over situational variables
    • research more difficult to replicate = lower external reliability, unlike lab where exact conditions replicatable
